Trump Administration Preparing Major Travel Ban, Over 30 Countries Likely to Face Entry Restrictions
The United States is preparing for a major expansion of travel restrictions under President Donald Trump, with reports suggesting that citizens from more than two dozen countries could soon be barred from entering the country. The move comes as the administration responds to heightened security concerns following a deadly shooting involving National Guard members in Washington, D.C.
According to a report by the New York Post, citing senior government sources, the updated travel ban list may initially include at least 30 countries, with the possibility of additional nations being added later. Discussions are reportedly in their final phase, and an official announcement could be made soon.
A spokesperson for the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) confirmed that the revised list is expected to be released shortly. U.S. Homeland Secretary Kristi Noem also hinted at significant changes, writing on X (formerly Twitter) that she had proposed restricting entry from countries that “send murderers, criminals, and entitlement-driven extremists into our nation.”
Reaction After Attack on National Guard Troops
Secretary Noem posted:
“Our ancestors built this nation with blood, hard work, and a steadfast love for freedom — not for foreign attackers who kill our heroes or drain public funds. We do not want them here. Not even one.”
The proposed travel restrictions are seen as part of the administration’s response to last week’s shooting in Washington, D.C., where two National Guard members were targeted. One female officer was killed, and 24-year-old Andrew Wolfe remains critically injured. An Afghan national has been charged in connection with the attack.
Following the incident, the Trump administration suspended all asylum processing and placed 19 countries on a high-concern monitoring list. More than 720,000 Green Card holders from these countries are now undergoing renewed security vetting. The U.S. State Department has also halted visa processing for travellers using Afghan passports.
