Washington: US President Donald Trump has once again attempted to portray himself as a peacemaker, claiming credit for preventing eight wars in 10 months. He attributed this success to tariffs. In his address to the nation, Trump said that tariffs are his favorite word. He also attacked former President Joe Biden, accusing him of leaving the US in a chaotic state. During his address, Trump also presented his administration’s agenda for 2026.
Trump’s Claim of Stopping 8 Wars
Trump said, “I have restored American strength. I have ended eight wars in 10 months. I have ended the Iranian nuclear threat and ended the war in Gaza, bringing peace for the first time in 3,000 years. And I have succeeded in bringing hostages home, alive or dead.” Trump has claimed dozens of times that he has prevented numerous wars. He has also complained about not receiving enough credit for his achievements.
The US President has previously claimed several times that he brokered a ceasefire between India and Pakistan in May. He also claimed that he forced both countries to agree to it by threatening tariffs. India has repeatedly rejected Washington’s claim, asserting that no third party played any role in the India-Pakistan ceasefire.
Huge Earnings Due to Tariffs
Despite falling approval ratings and soaring prices in the US, Trump ignored inflation and insisted that tariffs have helped the American economy. Trump said, “We have made more money than anyone ever thought possible because of tariffs, and that bill also helped us.” The US President was referring to the large tax cut bill passed at the beginning of the year.
Trump delivered this address amidst his declining popularity. A new Reuters/Ipsos poll released on Tuesday revealed that only 33 percent of Americans agree that President Trump has handled the economy correctly. However, Trump offered no explanation for the situation during his remarks. Instead, he blamed the failures on the previous Democratic administration of Joe Biden. Trump said, “When I took office, I inherited a mess, and I’m fixing it.”
