Hollywood Director Rob Reiner and Wife Michele Found Dead at Los Angeles Home
Renowned Hollywood director and actor Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele Reiner, have been found dead at their home in Los Angeles, authorities confirmed on Sunday. Police have launched a homicide investigation, though no arrests have been made so far.
Emergency services were called to the couple’s residence in the Brentwood area, an upscale neighborhood known for being home to several celebrities, during the afternoon. A man aged 78 and a woman aged 68 were pronounced dead at the scene. Officials have not yet released details about how the deaths occurred.
The Los Angeles Police Department said robbery-homicide detectives are handling the case. While investigators have not named a suspect or person of interest, they emphasized that the investigation is ongoing. The cause of death will be determined by the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office.
A spokesperson for the Los Angeles Fire Department said crews responded to a medical emergency call at the home shortly before 4:00 pm local time. Police later confirmed that both individuals were still inside the house several hours after first responders arrived.
In a statement issued to US media, a family representative expressed deep grief over the loss. “We are devastated by this sudden tragedy and respectfully ask for privacy during this extremely difficult period,” the statement said.
Rob Reiner was widely regarded as one of Hollywood’s most influential filmmakers. He directed and produced numerous iconic films, including This Is Spinal Tap, Stand By Me, The Princess Bride, When Harry Met Sally, Misery, and A Few Good Men. His work shaped modern American cinema and earned him widespread critical acclaim.
California Governor Gavin Newsom confirmed the deaths and paid tribute to Reiner, describing him as a creative force whose storytelling touched generations. Several public figures and members of the entertainment industry also shared messages of condolence.
Former US President Barack Obama said Reiner’s work left a lasting cultural impact and praised the couple for living lives guided by strong values and purpose.
Born into a legendary entertainment family, Reiner was the son of famed comedian Carl Reiner. He first gained national attention in the 1970s for his role as “Meathead” in the television series All in the Family, earning multiple Emmy Awards. He later transitioned into directing, where he achieved even greater success.
Tributes also poured in from fellow actors and filmmakers, with many remembering Reiner as a generous, kind, and deeply respected figure in the industry.
Authorities have said more information will be released as the investigation progresses.
