Bondi Shooting: Surviving Suspect Charged With 15 Murder Counts

Australian police have formally charged the alleged surviving gunman in the Bondi Beach shooting with multiple serious offences, including 15 counts of murder.

New South Wales Police confirmed that Naveed Akram, who was injured during the attack, is facing a total of 59 charges. These include 15 murder charges, one count related to carrying out a terrorist act, and dozens of offences connected to causing severe injuries to victims.

The second alleged attacker, identified as Akram’s father Sajid Akram, was killed at the scene during a confrontation with police.

The shooting, which took place during a Hanukkah event in Sydney’s Bondi area, left 15 people dead and injured many others. Authorities have described it as Australia’s deadliest mass shooting in nearly three decades.

Police say Akram is also accused of deliberately causing grievous bodily harm to dozens of people and displaying a symbol linked to a banned terrorist organisation. Investigators have classified the incident as a terrorist attack.

Due to his medical condition, Akram appeared at his first court hearing from his hospital bed. Officials said the case has been postponed until April 2026 while investigations continue.

Police have also confirmed that improvised explosive devices and materials linked to extremist ideology were found in the vehicle allegedly used in the attack.

Several victims remain hospitalised across Sydney, with at least one person still in critical condition.

Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said authorities believe the attack was ideologically motivated, while stressing that investigations are ongoing.
