Three people were killed and several others injured after a speeding vehicle struck pedestrians and parked cars in Oakland late Saturday night, according to local authorities.
The crash happened around 11:15 p.m. near the intersection of International Boulevard and 85th Avenue, the Oakland Fire Department said.
Emergency crews rushed multiple injured victims to nearby hospitals. Officials initially reported that two victims were in critical condition following the collision.
In an updated statement on Sunday, the Oakland Police Department confirmed that three pedestrians died at the scene. Three other injured people were hospitalized, with conditions ranging from critical to stable.
Police said the driver of the vehicle was also taken to a hospital for medical treatment.
Investigators believe the vehicle was traveling at a high speed northbound on 85th Avenue before turning west onto International Boulevard, where it struck a parked vehicle and several pedestrians gathered in the area.
Authorities revealed that the driver was a juvenile and has been arrested in connection with the deadly incident.
Police said it remains unclear whether alcohol or drugs played a role in the crash, and the investigation is ongoing.
