Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) workers are holding rallies in different parts of the country. These protests are against the 17-year jail sentence handed down by a court to PTI founder Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi in the Toshakhana-2 case.
Protesters gathered outside the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly building in Peshawar on Sunday and chanted slogans in support of Khan. During the protest, National Assembly member Shandana Gulzar said that Imran Khan is fighting for the rights of future generations and citizens.
‘Imran Khan fought for the poor’
She said that Imran Khan has never asked for anything for himself and is fighting for the poor. The protest in the Laghari area was led by Khalilur Rehman, chairman of the Nawagai Tehsil Council and former PTI district president.
Slogans against the central government and the judge
The protesters, carrying party flags, chanted slogans against the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz-led central government and the judge who delivered the verdict. The workers rejected the decision, calling it a major blow to Pakistan’s justice system, which they said has been weakened after the 27th constitutional amendment.
