Moscow: Russia has expressed hope for the end of the war that has been going on for almost four years in Ukraine. Russia has said that negotiations on the US peace agreement to end the war are going well. The talks are part of the peace efforts being made by the Trump administration. For this, a meeting of Ukrainian and European officials has been held in Berlin at the beginning of the week. President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky has also described the talks as good.
AP reports that both Ukraine and Russia are positive. Kirill Dmitriev said on Saturday that the discussions are moving forward constructively. Dmitriev has met US President Donald Trump’s envoy Steve Witkoff and Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner in Miami. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said on Saturday that America’s position after talks with the Russians is important.
Zelensky hopes to negotiate
The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, has said that he supports the idea of a tripartite meeting of the national security advisers of Ukraine, the United States and Russia. He said that he is optimistic about such a meeting. According to Zelensky, this proposal came from the US, which was informed by the chief peace negotiator of Ukraine, Rustem Umerov.
Zelensky said he was not entirely confident that anything new would come out of the meeting. At the same time, he reminded that the return of captured soldiers and civilians was possible after the previous talks in Turkey. Zelensky said that if the meeting leads to a prisoner exchange or any other agreement, he will accept it. They want to see what happens next by supporting the US proposal.
Zelensky also acknowledged that the most difficult issues related to the peace process are still unresolved. These include territorial disputes, control of the Zaporizhia nuclear power plant, and funding for reconstruction in Ukraine. On the other hand, Trump administration officials say that 90 percent of the US peace plan has been agreed upon.
