Trump Extends Deadline, Pauses Strikes on Iran’s Energy Sites for 10 Days

Trump Extends Deadline, Pauses Strikes on Iran’s Energy Sites for 10 Days

Posted on March 27, 2026

Washington: US President Donald Trump has extended the deadline for potential strikes on Iran’s energy infrastructure, announcing a 10-day pause until April 6. He said the decision was made at Tehran’s request and claimed that ongoing talks are “going very well.”

In a post on his Truth Social platform, Trump said the planned action against Iran’s energy facilities would be halted until 8 PM Eastern Time on April 6, 2026. He added that despite contrary claims by “fake news media,” negotiations between Washington and Tehran are progressing positively.

This marks the second time Trump has pushed back the deadline. Earlier, he had issued a 48-hour ultimatum to Iran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz for oil tankers, warning of strikes on power plants if it failed to comply. That deadline was first delayed by five days, and now extended further by 10 days.

It remains unclear whether the latest pause could lead to a broader ceasefire or is simply a temporary measure to ease tensions. However, the move is seen as opening a window for diplomacy.

Earlier, Trump’s Middle East envoy Steve Witkoff had indicated that Tehran was willing to engage in talks. He also revealed that Washington had shared a 15-point action plan with Iran through Pakistani intermediaries.

Trump had also claimed that Iran recently allowed 10 US oil tankers to pass through the Strait of Hormuz, calling it a sign that Tehran is serious about ending the conflict.
